Why I Love What I Do

The sun is out for what feels like the first time in weeks, giving me a sense of encouragement and renewed focus. This fresh, positive mindset has gotten me thinking about why I love what I do. It’s probably the question clients and business owners ask me regularly so I’d share the answer it for you all today.

Reason one why I love what I do – it constantly surprises me with answers and self-realization. I am independent and love the creative life, but I also look to others for encouragement and reassurance. I was deep into self-employment when I finally became aware that these seemingly opposing traits actually beautifully complement each other. I have never considered myself a risk-taker to even the smallest degree. Yet, I’ve always wanted to run my own business. In reality, putting your future and financial security in your own hands is probably one of the biggest risks you can take. I may not be skydiving out of a plane 15000 feet in the air, but I am much more brave and ballsy than I ever thought.

Reason two why I love what I do – supporting someone through their own times of struggle is incredibly rewarding. I absolutely love the relationships I build with both clients and vendors alike. These relationships can get really personal as planning a wedding and running a business bring out all sorts of emotions. It’s an honour and humbling to be trusted with such personal information. Likewise, there are a unique set of challenges we face as entrepreneurs which stretch our emotions daily.

Reason number three why I love what I do – it challenges me daily to be responsible for my own well-being. I’ll admit it. I am a procrastinator and I self-sabotage. However, running my own business means I am solely responsible for my own happiness and success. I have to prioritize my time and energy into things that make both me and my business run most efficiently and effectively. It’s not always easy, but it does mean I fill my life with only the things and people that make me most happy. Running my own business has made me more responsible in my personal life too! My free time is thin and precious so I’m not wasting it on anything that doesn’t serve me in a positive way.

Reason four why I love what I do – it flexes my creative muscle in both design and the process. I thrive when creating beautiful things that have heart and grounded by love. This applies not only to both the design aspect of my business, but also the process and planning. I’m always working or thinking about the next step, meaning I’m 100% dedicated to my business. If something comes up that challenges me, I don’t see it as a roadblock as I would in other areas of my life. I just see it as the next step or hurdle towards the end goal. It keeps me thinking creatively and finding solutions that are true to the heart. I get to finish one project, enjoy the success and move on to the next project.

I could go on forever, but I think this gives you a sense of why I love what I do and what drives me to give my client the best result.
