Every once in a while, a wedding comes along that stretches my creativity and reconnects me with what I love most about design.
Kristen and Ian’s colourful Italian-inspired wedding at Elora Mill in September 2025 was exactly that.
When Kristen told me she envisioned a palette of red and blue with cool pink accents, I was immediately all in. It was completely different from anything I had designed before, and that level of trust is something I never take for granted. My goal is always to take a couple’s vision and expand upon it, creating something elevated while ensuring it still feels authentically theirs.
Kristen had discovered Stonefruit Floral on Instagram and knew right away they were the florist for her. Their artistic approach to florals feels more like sculpture than an arrangement, creating texture, movement, and visual impact while remaining cohesive.
To bring that vision to life for the ceremony, I challenged Kristen to create oversized pink bows, and she enthusiastically took on the project. The result felt more like an art installation than a traditional ceremony design. One side featured monochromatic pink florals accented by the dramatic bows, while the other incorporated the full colour palette, creating movement and balance across the space.
One of my favourite parts of the design was finding ways to repurpose those ceremony florals throughout the reception, allowing the story of the day to continue while maximizing the floral investment.
For the reception design, we leaned into red tones without letting them overwhelm the room. Some tables were dressed in rich red linens while others featured soft pink runners, creating variation and visual rhythm throughout the space. Blue candles, menus, and place cards added depth and contrast without cluttering the tabletops. We paired larger statement arrangements with smaller artistic floral moments, creating impact while remaining mindful of both budget and guest comfort. Even details like the coral-striped napkins helped bridge the transition between the red and pink florals, adding texture and warmth without competing for attention.
Kristen and Ian’s wedding is proof that a bold colour palette can feel sophisticated, elevated, and timeless when every element is thoughtfully considered. By balancing rich reds with soft pinks, introducing touches of blue, and embracing artistic floral design, we created a celebration that felt both unexpected and cohesive. It was a joy to bring this vision to life at Elora Mill, and I couldn't be more grateful to have been trusted with such a creative design journey.
