A Colourful Fall Wedding at Cambridge Mill | Falls Room Wedding Reception

If you’re dreaming of a romantic, light-filled celebration in Southern Ontario, a Cambridge Mill wedding might be exactly what you’re looking for. Caitlin and James’ day at this stunning Cambridge wedding venue captured everything that makes the Mill so special: elegant architecture, breathtaking views, and a timeless atmosphere that’s perfect for both modern and classic celebrations.

A Relaxed Start at The Laundry Rooms in Cambridge

Caitlin and James began their wedding morning at The Laundry Rooms, a boutique short-term rental in downtown Cambridge that’s become a favourite for couples getting ready before their wedding at the Cambridge Mill. With its spacious, stylish suites and large windows for natural light, it made the perfect setting for photos, laughter, and quiet moments with loved ones.

Their dog joined them for the morning festivities, bringing even more joy (and a few tail wags) to the start of the day. Despite a larger wedding party and all the anticipation, the atmosphere stayed relaxed, happy, and full of love; the perfect prelude to their ceremony just down the road.

A Sunlit Ceremony in the Pavilion

For the ceremony, Caitlin and James chose the Pavilion at the Cambridge Mill, one of the venue’s most sought-after spaces. The Pavilion is a bright, glass-enclosed room overlooking the Grand River, offering panoramic views and a naturally romantic feel. On this sunny day, the light poured in beautifully, highlighting every detail and giving the ceremony a serene, golden glow.

Guests were greeted by a custom welcome sign with a flower box, an early preview of the design story to come: romantic, colourful, and timeless.

Warm, Refined Design Details

Caitlin envisioned a colour palette that felt warm and colourful, but not overly summery. To achieve that, we layered:

  • Pistachio-colored linens for a soft, unexpected foundation.

  • Rust and peach florals, giving warmth and depth.

  • Dark green stationery for contrast and richness.

  • Black-trimmed charger plates, adding a subtle nod to classic elegance.

The bridesmaids wore dresses in different shades drawn from the palette, creating a beautifully coordinated yet effortless look.

Reception in the Falls Room at Cambridge Mill

The celebration continued in the Falls Room at the Cambridge Mill, one of the most iconic wedding reception spaces in Cambridge, Ontario. With 12-foot ceilings, original stonework, hand-carved beams, and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Grand River, the Falls Room feels both historic and modern. The space is cantilevered over the river, giving guests stunning water views and a cozy atmosphere anchored by a fireplace.

For Caitlin and James, it was the perfect setting to celebrate surrounded by family, friends, and the natural beauty of Cambridge. From the relaxed morning at The Laundry Rooms to their joyful reception in the Falls Room, the day was full of love, calm, and meaningful detail - exactly what a Cambridge Mill wedding should be.

The Vendor Team

Caitlin and James’ Cambridge Mill wedding came together beautifully thanks to an incredible team of vendors. Rentals from Nayos Rentals, romantic florals by Calluna and Co., and stationery from All That’s Lovely. Photography and videography were captured perfectly by DML Films. Ceremony music was performed live by Cecilia Chang, while 586 Event Group kept the dance floor full all night. Hair styling was by Brilliant Bridal with makeup artistry by Sky Shapiro.

Governors Room at Ancaster Mill | A Fun, Whimsical Pastel Wedding

If you’ve seen Ancaster Mill wedding photos before you’ll probably have noticed the interiors are very heavy with wood and a little bit rustic with original stonework showcased in different areas. It’s been fun to have had the opportunity to work on a few weddings in all of the Ancaster Mill’s reception spaces as they’re each so different. Even the outside looks so different through various times of the year with the beautifully maintained grounds.

While I’m certainly a lover of colourful wedding palettes, it’s always been more on a warmer or summery palette this one felt really special as Chey and Neil wanted to go more pastel. and whimsical, something that was a little unfamiliar to me! Being a designer herself, Chey came with strong ideas that were fun to help her develop further and bring to life, creating a wedding design that is romantic, elegant, and soft, with a refined yet whimsical charm. She designed all of the invitations and wedding day stationery even making custom enamel pins for her guests as the cutest wedding favours as a nod to her business, Sugarbones.

Chey’s dress was "Phoenix" by Enzoani, a lace wedding gown with custom sleeves and a long, flowing veil, giving her a timeless and ethereal look. Her bouquet and all the reception florals featured pastel hues with a mix of peach, blush, soft blue, and cream flowers, adding a delicate and romantic touch.

The tablescape design had a simple white linen base which allowed the colourful florals and blue candles to pop. We had even more fun with the place settings with the four different coloured water glasses that allowed the eye to keep moving around the room. The scalloped edge menus and place cards were the cutest trendy element that somehow felt right at home and timeless with her style.

A Colourful Wedding Reception at The Arlington Estate

We have been incredibly lucky to work with exceptionally kind, thoughtful and caring clients and Georgia and Kyle top the list of couples whose planning journey and wedding days we want to relive over and over again. Their plans were greatly affected by the pandemic so we just held on until the timing felt right which allowed them to also start a family! They were married May 28, 2023 in a traditional Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony with their almost one year old son, Leo, by their side followed by a wedding reception at The Arlington Estate.

We had a colour palette of pinks, caramels, yellows, and deep rust-reds paired with a soft cool-blue.

Toronto wedding invitation designer, Paper Palette, designed an impeccable wedding invitation suite with a watercolor floral pattern atop a cool blue envelope, accompanied by rust-coloured ink for the copy and a soft pink reply card envelope. Wild North Flowers, a Toronto wedding floral studio, took our palette and hit a home run embracing those warm caramels and rust-toned reds softened by whites and pinks for a bridal bouquet fitting for a late-spring wedding. Simply Beautiful Decor’s tabletop pieces carried the design through to the tactile details with which the guests would interact. Oh, and we can’t forget the acrylic arch behind the head table from Exquisite Occasions that Wild North Flowers decked out in florals for a floating effect.

One of my favourite details has to be the custom mosaic tile-inspired dance floor vinyl by Designer Dance Floors. We also included some lounge furniture from Detailz Couture in the front lobby of The Arlington Estate to offer some soft seating for a casual cocktail hour period and some large 13’ ficus trees from Event Rent in the West Wing to play with the scale of the room being so large. The party portion of the evening was kicked off with fireworks from Firemaster Productions followed by an epic performance by The Dave Murphy Band.

Purple Tree Photography beautifully captured the day in its full splendor.

The other Toronto-based wedding vendors included Cocoa Cakery, Hotshotz Photobooth, Wild and Free Films, Nadia and Co., Erin Nicole Makeup Artistry, and Eryn Shannon Bridal.

A Summery Outdoor Langdon Hall Wedding

It is always a joy to design a Langdon Hall wedding and we were lucky enough to do two back-to-back wedding weekends in 2021. Sarah and Peter’s wedding at Langdon Hall Country House and Spa in Cambridge, Ontario was held on August 14, 2021.

Sarah’s wedding vision was soft romance, through a light colour palette and subtle texture changes. We incorporated soft blues, greys, and the smallest amount of blush to create a wedding palette that felt fresh and garden-inspired.

We were lucky enough to have local artist, Niki Kingsmill create a custom illustration of Langdon Hall to incorporate into the invitation suite done by Red Bicycle Paper Co.

Florals were a huge part of Sarah’s vision as her grandmother used to be a florist herself so we were careful to select a florist who was willing to work with us in the creative vision while letting Sarah’s grandmother do the bouquets. This can be a tricky situation, but Grandma was careful to use the same variety of florals that Forever Wildfield had selected for her floral recipe so that it felt as seamless as possible. I think only a trained eye would notice the difference.

We worked closely with Simply Beautiful Decor to pick just the right white linen and layered effect with chiffon runners for a texture-on-texture look and the tablescape was completed with charger plates from Tabletales.

Romantic Modern Wedding at Elora Mill

Rachel and Cooper’s romantic modern wedding at Elora Mill is something dreams are made of. There is something so special about the small town only about an hour from Toronto, making it the perfect quaint weekend getaway for both couples and their guests. Rachel wanted a contemporary wedding design that still felt mostly timeless and romantic and I think we accomplished that. We love working with florist, Forever Wildfield because the collaboration is always fun and our ideas scale up and down to ensure we’re not going overboard in any one area and allowing all pieces to have a moment to shine and complement each other. We made good use of the in-house chargers and menus from the Elora Mill, but freshened it up with some napkins and linens from Special Event Rentals, our favourite Burlington-based wedding rental company. It has also been a dream to work with Ottawa-based, destination wedding photographers, Joel and Justyna and to say they were the perfect fit for this wedding is nothing short of the truth. We feel so honoured to have been tasked with designing and planning this romantic modern wedding at Elora Mill. Beauty by Allyssa Helm, music from The DJ Co., stationery by Statue Rue, and cake from Fancy That Cake.

Casa Loma Glass Pavilion Wedding

The glass pavilion at Casa Loma is a gorgeous option for those who want a tent wedding look but either don’t have the property available or even want to organize something at home.

Jackie and Don opted for a photography permit at Spadina Museum just next door to Casa Loma, removing the need for wasted travel time at multiple locations.

For the design, Casa Loma’s Glass Pavilion’s white floors, glass walls and ceiling with the white drapery and beautiful chandeliers make it a gorgeous base. Jackie wanted a minimalist design but one that still had some depth. So we kept with the standard square tables available from the venue and covered them in soft ivory velvet linens and a caramel-coloured napkin. We opted for three different candle colours to add more interest without adding clutter. The floral arrangements were a mix of low and tall to help keep the eye moving around the room.

Lastly, for the floor plan, we went non-traditional and had Jackie and Don sitting at one of the long tables in the room. Since the stage in the space is a permanent fixture, and Jackie and Don didn’t want to be on display, we kept the ceremony musicians to play during dinner and placed them on the stage with the ceremony florals repurposed as a backdrop for them. You can see a photo of this layout below.

Stratus Vineyard Wedding in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Brandi and Doug traveled from St. Louis, Missouri for their gorgeous Stratus Vineyards wedding in Niagara-on-the-Lake on August 19, 2022.

Their wedding was 729 days in the making and I suppose we can actually thank the pandemic for this extra time because it gave us the opportunity to give this wedding a glow-up as time went on. Sometimes you can’t rush things and this is a great example of that! For her wedding stationery and invitations, Brandi wanted something with a classic formal style and I think Amber from All That’s Lovely just crushed it with the pocket fold, romantic fonts, a hint of pearlescent paper, and traditional mailed-back RSVP; just the classiest vibe!

We then tasked Bloom and Co., the best Niagara-on-the-Lake and area wedding florist I can think of, with the task of taking her signature romantic garden style and softening up a very modern ceremony space and super industrial weekday workspace into a lush garden escape. We used another Niagara wedding rental favourite, Simply Beautiful Decor, to bring all the yummy textures and tabletop details to life.

All so beautifully and carefully captured by one of my absolute favourite photographers, Will Reid Photo. The gorgeous video below was impeccably filmed by DML Films.

Special thanks to the rest of the incredible team including our caterer Tide and Vine, DJ 586 Event Group, Sweet Celebrations for cake and sweets, Blue Lady Food Truck for the late-night poutine, and Kimberly Love and Camille Scott, both from the St. Louis area, for their hair and makeup talents, respectively! Brandi’s dress is from designer Rebecca Schoneveld, purchased at Bridal Parlour in the St. Louis area.

The Floorplan

The Press Alley at Stratus Vineyard in Niagara on the Lake is a long, straight space that is limited in setup options, but with a smaller guest count, we were able to create an intimate floorplan where Brandi and Doug were in the centre of their guests at a sweetheart table. Here’s the final floorplan (chandeliers are the circles above the tables) we chose should it help you in planning your own wedding at Stratus Vineyard’s Press Alley.
