A Romantic Fall Farm Wedding in Dundas, Ontario | Ruby & Derek’s Private Estate Celebration

For bride Ruby, there was never a question of where she wanted to get married. No matter how far life and career had taken her and Derek Gee around the world, her heart always came back to her parents’ family farm in Dundas, Ontario.

Ruby and Derek live abroad for Derek’s career as a professional cyclist, and planning a wedding from overseas requires a deep level of trust. From the very beginning, they offered it freely. With just a warm fall colour palette as guidance, they entrusted me to take care of the rest. That creative freedom allowed their wedding day to unfold in a way that felt deeply personal, grounded, and full of heart.

Transforming a Family Barn into a Wedding Venue

Over the course of the year leading up to the wedding, Ruby’s family worked tirelessly to transform the farm’s main barn from a functional storage space into a welcoming wedding venue. It was a true labour of love; one that reflected the care, pride, and connection this family has to their land.

The Dundas community is close-knit, especially within farming circles, and that sense of community showed up beautifully throughout the wedding. With strong ties to Primavera Flower Farm, the floral design became a meaningful collaboration. Ruby’s mom grew many of the flowers right on the family farm, and Ashley Vandermaarel of Primavera thoughtfully incorporated them into the arrangements. The result was a floral design that felt joyful, abundant, and deeply personal and, ultimately, a true team effort rooted in love.

A Scenic Hilltop Ceremony

The ceremony took place at the crest of a hill overlooking the property, offering sweeping views of the land that has meant so much to Ruby’s family over the years. Winding paths were carved through the property, inviting guests to slowly meander up the hill with a glass of prosecco in hand.

As guests made their way to the ceremony site, they were drawn forward by live music from Fox Music of Niagara, setting a tone that felt relaxed, romantic, and intentional. After the ceremony, guests wandered back down toward the barn, where cocktail hour awaited just outside, creating an effortless flow that allowed everyone to truly take in the setting.

Elevated Design with Rustic Roots

From a design perspective, my goal was to honour the rustic nature of the barn while elevating it with thoughtful, refined details. The juxtaposition of raw wood and agricultural elements with beautiful linens and candlelight created a space that felt warm, welcoming, and quietly luxurious.

We layered harvest tables with ochre velvet runners to echo the season while maintaining a grounded, organic feel. Somerset linens from Simply Beautiful Decor - a delicate green floral pattern on crisp white - softened the space and added visual interest without overpowering it.

Candlelight played a key role in the reception design. Yummi taper candles in Green Tea and Olive were used throughout, casting a warm glow that enhanced the barn’s natural textures and brought the entire space to life as the evening unfolded.

The floral palette leaned fully into fall (happy, warm, and seasonal) without feeling predictable or overly literal. It complemented the surrounding landscape beautifully and tied together the overall design story.

Thoughtful Hospitality

Dinner was catered by Gourmet Chef, a Stratford-based wedding caterer known for their elevated, thoughtful approach to food. Their menu added another layer of warmth and hospitality to the day, perfectly suited to a farm celebration where guests gathered around long tables to eat, connect, and linger.

A Wedding Rooted in Place and People

Ruby and Derek’s wedding was a reflection of trust - in family, in community, and in the creative process. It was a celebration shaped by the land that means so much to Ruby, the people who love them both, and a shared vision of something meaningful rather than flashy.

Getting married on a family farm is never just about the setting. It’s about history, connection, and creating something together. This Dundas farm wedding was exactly that: a beautiful reminder that the most memorable celebrations are the ones rooted in place and built with heart.

Classic White Wedding at The Pearle Hotel in Burlington, Ontario

A+J’s wedding overlooking Lake Ontario at the Pearle Hotel in downtown Burlington was a day full of love. Their ceremony took place in the Northshore Room, a gorgeous, light-filled room carefully designed to incorporate soft textures to create a calm and serene feel. Sue Gallo Designs outdid herself by adding floral elements that complemented the space’s design. A triple arch ceremony backdrop created a lovely focal point, and the aisle was filled with florals without feeling overwhelming. To divide the long space, Eventure Designs added draping, which not only made a lovely entrance for all those walking down the aisle but hid the dining tables on the other side. While guests enjoyed the cocktail hour in the Boulevard Room, the room was flipped for the reception. A’s stepfather owns a signage company and was able to do custom welcome, seating chart, and bar signs.

Kelsey of Cloud Nine Photography captured this day so beautifully, making such great use of the property for unique, gorgeous shots of the couple that still feel classic and timeless.

A Colourful Jewish Wedding Ceremony at The Pearle Hotel

Rebecca and Jordan’s wedding took place September 2024 at the Pearle Hotel and Spa, a luxury hotel in the heart of Burlington, Ontario A simple and clean acrylic chuppah faded into the background so that the couple and their families could be the focus in the North Shore Room. The colourful flowers at the top of the arch seemed to float in mid-air, anchored by additional florals on the ground. Guests mingled in the event space lobby for cocktail hour and then they moved into the Edgewater Room for dinner and dancing with gorgeous views of Lake Ontario.

Every detail of the hotel is beautifully appointed with the event spaces especially so. Both event rooms are large, which can pose a challenge, but the colourful floral palette popped against the blues and creams of the event spaces, effectively giving the spaces a more intimate feel.

Keeping some elements more traditional with the Jewish Bedeken ceremony, the chuppah, breaking of the glass, but one spot they knew they wanted to switch things up from the norm was to skip formal coffee and tea table service - desserts were dropped off at guest’s seats and they were encouraged to get up and dance, snacking on desserts and grabbing a coffee from the station when they were ready. It’s something we’ve seen happen a few times and it works so well as guests are always ready to get up and moving after their main course!

And let me tell you, these folks we R-E-A-D-Y for the dance floor. Just check out the Hora photos where even Rebecca’s mom and dad got in on the action!

Late Summer Wedding at The Ancaster Mill in the Governor's Room

This Ancaster Mill wedding from August 2023 was one of the dreamiest late summer weddings we’ve done. Jess and Greg got ready at The Barracks Inn, a beautiful hotel in Ancaster which in itself was a lovely setting both inside and out. Their ceremony took place in the Miller’s Chapel and reception in the Governor’s Room of the Ancaster Mill.

Jess’ bridesmaids wore satin dresses in the loveliest shade of vintage rose, each with a different cut for the top to suit them best, which in my opinion is a timeless wedding trend. Greg and his guys were dressed in classic black suits with ties and bowties. Hair and makeup were done by one of our favourite and best Toronto wedding beauty teams, ES Bridal.

The team at Forever Wildfield did the most wonderful job of the floral elements which really were the star of the show at the reception and more than a gorgeous topper to complement the linens and tabletop rentals from Simply Beautiful Decor.

All photography was captured by Jeff Shuh and stationery was by All That’s Lovely.

We truly feel so lucky to have been a part of this incredible wedding that bride, Jess, so carefully planned and trusted us in executing!

Colourful Tented Wedding in Burlington, Ontario

This private estate tented wedding in Lowville was such a joy to design and plan. Julie, our bride, wanted flowers everywhere and she certainly wasn’t afraid of colour. Pulling together all the spring colours created a fun, upbeat, upscale, and romantic wedding aesthetic at their home. Food and guest experience were incredibly important to our couple, Julie and Tom, and they wanted to ensure guests had a choice for all courses. We were fortunate to work again with Gourmet Chef at Your Table who did an incredible job bringing that goal to life.

The available level ground was limited so we did a long narrow tent 15’ deep and 50’ long in addition to a canopy on the patio to connect the dining tent with the house. A huge thank you to Special Event Rentals for their assistance in creating an intimate setting for their 65 guests and a feeling of an extension of their home.

Their dog, Harper, was almost the star of the show with his own place setting at the head table including the beef tenderloin for dinner. Have a scroll through the photos to see him being a very good boy!

We were thrilled to assist Julie and Tom with their wedding planning. Tent weddings are tricky to plan as there are so many moving parts but with careful consideration, they can be a success and worth all the effort.

Private Estate Tent Spring Bridal Shower in burlington, ontario

Lianne’s gorgeous bridal shower took place in June of 2022 under a tent in her parent’s beautiful backyard in Burlington, Ontario. Spring weather can change on a dime and will pose extra challenges for outdoor events so planning accordingly is key. We certainly lucked out with the most gorgeous weather and ran into just a little rain for about 5 minutes; thank you, Weather Gods!

Also, can you even believe we ended up in the most perfect location with the tent perfectly sitting atop the beautiful artificial grass? It made for the most incredible base for an outdoor setting.

We’ll let the images speak for themselves with all the gorgeous details from some incredible local vendors.

Photographed by Robin Sassi, tent and rentals from Special Event Rentals, florals by Sue Gallo Designs, stationery by Statue Rue, cake from Cake and Kale, and catering from Gourmet Chef at Your Table, this day truly is one of our favourites!

The Pearle Hotel and Spa, Upscale Burlington Wedding Venue

When I first found out that Pearle Hospitality was opening their latest venue, The Pearle Hotel and Spa, I think my jaw dropped to the floor. Burlington has been in desperate need of a high-end hotel and an upscale event space that can hold larger guest counts. Knowing Pearle (who owns Spencers at the Waterfront and Elora Mill just to name a few), the new hotel wasn’t going to fall short of being anything but an incredible experience.

There’s going to be a Hammam Spa and an indoor pool. The restaurant, Isabelle, offers a dining experience that highlights the locality, seasonality, and freshness of Ontario produce with much of it grown at their very own Earth to Table Farm. Its incredible waterfront patio will be perfect for a summer lunch or dinner under the stars. Designed by Studio Munge, check out some of the incredible renderings by them below!

There are two event spaces, both designed with neutral, but high-end decor, meaning there’s no worry of needing to cover up an unsightly wall or fight with an ugly carpet in your design; you just need to add your own personal touches to make the space unique to you. You’ve heard me talk before about my favourite Toronto wedding venues offering epic design and culinary experiences, and The Pearl Hotel and Spa will be nothing short of that.

The Edgewater Room

The Edgewater Room can host larger groups of up to 350 guests. Enjoy the use of the entire floor and private ceremony space. This beautiful room offers a fresh neutral décor with 16-foot ceilings and a south-facing view of the waterfront.

I was asked last summer to participate in a photoshoot on the property to help showcase the incredible views The Pearle Hotel and Spa has to offer from the event spaces. Even though it was still very much a construction zone, we made something beautiful. Check out some of the images from the shoot below.
